Following the approval of the amendment to designate the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist in the European Parliament, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic contacted the European Union’s foreign policy official and called this action of the European Parliament “emotional, harsh and unprofessional”.
According to Iran’s state media, Hossein Amirabdollahian, in an interview with Josep Borrell, called the action of the European Parliament in calling the Revolutionary Guard a terrorist, which he referred to as a “security-creating institution”, as “a shot in Europe’s own foot”.
The confusion of the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the historic action of the European Parliament is at a time when an unprecedented consensus has been formed in Europe to include the name of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the list of terrorism.
It seems that the diplomatic apparatus of the Islamic Republic is passively threatening the European Union authorities to prevent the IRGC from being declared a terrorist, which has painful consequences for this regime.
